Esther Sans Takeuchi is one of the most active and appreciated innovators, known for her life-saving innovations in batteries. Esther invented the lithium/silver vanadium oxide (SVO) battery, which is now the leading battery tech for implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICDs), a device that is helping save the lives of millions of heart patients.
Esther is an expert in organic chemistry and her research’s primary focus has been on battery technology. In 2018, Esther won the European Inventor Award for developing SVO batteries, which are much more powerful than traditional batteries, are miniature in size, and can last up to 5 years, compared to 1 year of traditional Li-ion batteries.
Esther was a curious kid, with a keen interest in figuring out the inner workings of things. She used to help her father, who’s an electrical engineer, in his projects, following him around the house.
