Pandora is the world’s largest jewellery company, well known for its charm bracelets. In the year 2000, Pandora introduced the charm bracelet concept, which would eventually contribute to the company’s international expansion. Today, the company’s “affordable luxury” jewellery is sold in over 100 countries at prices ranging from $35 to $1,500, with the majority of designs costing less than $100.
Pandora has stated that it would phase out mined diamonds in favour of lab-created stones. Pandora says its lab jewels are equal to mined diamonds in optical, chemical, thermal, and physical qualities, but are created in a laboratory rather than extracted from a mine, and will be available next year for a starting price of roughly $350. The new diamond alternatives are made in a carbon-neutral technique that adheres to labour and human rights norms.
By 2025, Pandora intends to stop utilising newly mined silver and gold and only purchase from recycled sources. About 60% of the silver and gold it bought last year was recycled. In other R&D news, Pandora opened a new Digital Hub in Copenhagen last year during the pandemic, which is home to roughly 100 software engineers, user experience designers, web and data analysts tasked with enhancing Pandora’s digital presence using AI and data analytics. The team focused on developing secure shopping experiences during COVID-19 closures, which they supplied in the form of a virtual try-on app, for example.
