Singapore Patent Trends 2023

Singapore has moved up two spots to fifth place in the Global Innovation Index (GII), leading the South-east Asia, East Asia and Oceania (SEAO) region for the year 2023. It is now the highest-ranking Asian market in the index, beating South Korea.

A total of approximately 19,000 patents were published in Singapore in the year 2023 (01 January 2023 – 31 December 2023) out of which around 4300 patents were granted, according to findings by Insights;Gate.

Leading the way is Huawei Technologies with 318 published patents in Singapore. Manufacturing company, Applied Materials, was 2nd at 261 and Samsung Electronics stood 3rd with 203 published patents.

Other top 10 Singapore patentees include: Disco Corporation, Advanced New Technologies among others.

On a country-by-country basis, American companies received the most patents, followed by companies based in Singapore, Japan, and China.
